Painting self portraits and altering my features in dreamy colors has also become a way of looking deeper into myself genuinely. I choose to play with the aspect of fauvism and illustration to establish the difference of the image of myself in my mind and real life. Right now, I feel inspired by everything around me. My muses are my classmates and their individualistic art, my art teachers Ms. Ward and Mr. Martinez, the fauvism of visual artists like Monet, Jamie Hewlett, and Bisa Butler, and even musical artists such as Sophie Xeon and Arca. I create with the hope that my future in art becomes clear and I can continue to express my feelings and struggles with less pressure.

College and Career
After high school I plan to attend Mason Gross School of Arts majoring in Design, and minoring in Business Administration. I hope to take many classes on fine arts and design to further my knowledge and passion for the arts. After higher education I would love to be a graphic designer for a company while also freelancing my art skills creating my own artwork. I would like to potentially do residency and create artwork for others or have my own art studio for people to visit and purchase my artwork. My Series of Art My artwork is based on all of my experiences in my life, depicted through my friends, family, and myself in many different series. While also speaking on racial stereotypes that us black people go through, and the feeling of being different than my peers in my school. Every artwork exhibited all goes in a circle to not only represent my life and all of its ups and downs, but also the happy moments of me creating artwork for the sake of being creative. So with this I will leave you with a quote I wrote myself. “Don’t be afraid to be who you are, because being who you are is better than anything else!” |

Artist Statement: I was born in Pakistan and immigrated to America when I was 4. Growing up in Jersey City has influenced my art to where it is now. Art has allowed me to speak on my emotions and struggles that I have difficulties verbalizing. I’ve always loved making art so this activity is something that has always been a leisure to me. It’s never felt like work I was creating for others, even when my art was for an assignment. My art is about my perception of the world. My work isn’t necessarily about changing the world and leaving an impact, rather it’s about the things that admire, appreciate, and hold important to me. My art leaves the impact it is destined to have, rather then intentionally creating work that is suppose to be impactful. A lot of my work has to do with my experiences and my memories. Some of my work are snapshots of real life, moments frozen in time. My pieces are cultivated through a chain of ideas. For example, I may come across a quote in a book and while pondering on that quote, I connect it to different ideas that have a relationship with each other, and through that I am able to create visuals that are more abstractly thought out. My style consists of mark making and colors. My influences are my origin, my family, literature, films, art, nature, vivid colors, and spontaneity of the brain. I plan to continue pursuing art at the Cooper Union School of Art in NYC this Fall. Contact: Email: [email protected] 201.238.5606 |
Hi! I’m Coda Camaya, a senior at High Tech High School. I’ve made art throughout my high school years in student organizations like Zenerations and the Jersey City Mural Arts Program. This fall, I’ll be majoring in design at Carnegie Mellon University, but I fully intend to keep art with me for the four years and beyond. |
Hello, my name is Khiara D’Ambrosio, I am an artist all around. I feel like my purpose for being put on the earth was to create art and share it with others. I’ve lived in a small town for 13 years of my life with my family and I’ve learned so much about the art world by visiting New York City often. My father is a musician and he is the lead singer to his own band called Escarioka. My mom used to work on making nail art, jewelry and a couple paintings. My family is very artistic in every sense, so of course it was passed down to me. Ever since I was a child I was always interested in trying to push my art everywhere. Drawing, painting, writing, singing, acting,

My name is Melanie Villa and I'm a senior at Harrison High School. Entering high school, I knew I wanted to be in art class and art club to let my imagination run wild and experiment with different types of mediums. Ms.Maya, who I met when I was younger and then later in high school, has inspired me to do my best, not only in art but in my daily life too. I love designing and using typography to express my artwork. I later learned that I wanted to pursue graphic design. I plan on attending NJCU.

Biography of Performing Experience and Interests I fell in love with the arts at the age of 7. It all started with a radio and an appreciation for music notes. My young curious mind wanted to be able to belt the high notes like Adele and or Arianna Grande. I became more serious about the arts my freshman year of high school. Participating in all and as many art-related opportunities. Such as joining the K- Birds, a professional singing group in KHS. Performing in many KHS shows for example High School Musical (2019), The Addams Family Musical (2020), the Dance Academy's Virtual Showcase (2021), Fall Senior Play: Nun of Your Business (2021), In The Heights Musical (2022), and the Dance Academy's Showcase (2022). This year my great friend, Gabriel De Los Santos, and I won county and states at Teen Arts for our small group musical theater. And I could not be more proud and honored to have had the opportunity to portray such a meaningful character through song and acting. To be able to move audiences, send chills, and even make one emotional is rewarding in itself. I hope to continue being a performer in the future. Still taking dance classes, acting and singing lessons, and just continuing working on my craft. I’m so grateful to have had the wonderful experience of working with Gabriel De Los Santos and Marissa Costa, who also won a blue ribbon at Teen Arts! I wish you guys the most luck in your future endeavors, break so many legs! <3 |
