Hola! I’m Valeria del Carmen and I’ll be attending Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University - New Brunswick for Visual Arts. I came to this country from Venezuela 4 years ago and started in art in my junior year at Hoboken High School after the pandemic. Therefore I don’t have a lot of experience but I love art in any of its expressions. I love painting and it’s what I’m going to specialize in but I also do performing arts outside my school, photography on my own and occasionally writing. As I wrote in my college essay I heard Ethan Hawke say “And all of the sudden you're desperate to make sense out of this life… Did anybody feel like this before? What is happening to me? And that's when art is not a luxury it's actually sustenance. We need it”. And it just made so much sense that I’ll be stuck with it from now on.
